On 31st October 1786 James Stein became the registered owner of the Rachael of Kincardine. This ship was built in Kincardine by John Marshall in 1785.

She was a Square Sterned Carval Sloop and she had one deck and one mast, she was 54ft 9inlong and 18ft 8in wide. The depth of her hold was 10ft 1in and she was 73 tons.

In pursuance of an Act, passed in the Twenty-sixth Year of the Reign of King

GEORGE the Third, Intitled, An Act further Increase and Encouragement of

Shipping and Navigation, James Stein of Kilbagie, Parish and County of

Clackmannan and William Scotland, shipmaster in Kincardine

Parish of Tulliallan and County of Perth, both in the District of Alloa

having taken and subscribed the Oath required by the Act, and having sworn that

they themselves are

sole Owners of the Ship or Vessel called The Rachael of

Kincardine whereof Said Scotland

is at present Master, and that the said Ship or Vessel was built at kincardine

by John Marshall, In the year One Thousand seven hundred and

Eighty five

And Mr John Watson Landwaiter

having certified to Us, that the said Ship or Vessel is British Built has One Deck

and One Mast: that her Length, from the Fore-part of the Main Stem to the

After-part of the Stern Post aloft, is Fifty four feet nine Inches

Her Breadth at the broadest Part, whether above or below the Main Wales, Eighteen

feet Eight Inches her Depth of Hold Ten feet One Inch

and measures Seventy three Tons; that she

is a Square Sterned Carval Sloop has No Gallery, and No

Head; and the said subscribing Owners having consented and agreed to the above

Description and Measurement, and having caused sufficient Security to be given, as

is required by the said Act, the said Sloop Rachael has been

duly registered at the Port of Alloa.

 

Given under Our Hands and Seals of Office, at the Custom-house in the said port

of Alloa this thirty first Day of October

in the Year One thousand seven hundred and eighty six.
