On 31st January 1787 John Stein became the registered owner of the
Isabella of Kennet Pans.

This ship was built at Kincardine by John Marshall and launched in December 1786.

She was a Square Sterned Carval Sloop and she had one deck and one Mast. She was 46ft 6in long and 15ft 6in wide. The depth of her hold was 6ft 6in and she was 43½ tons.

On 29th June 1796 John Duncanson, Shipmaster in Cambus became the registered owner. On his Certificates of British Registry is the following:

As appears by a Register granted here No. 89, 31 January 1787, which is now delivered up to be Cancelled, and this Register De Novo is granted on account of the Property being transferred from John Stein the former owner, in favour of said Duncanson by James Craig, Merchant in Edinburgh, Trustee on Stein’s Sequestrated Estate as appears by a vendition dated the 25 day of November 1788.

GEORGE the Third, Intitled, An Act for the Further Increase and Encouragement of

Shipping and Navigation, John Stein of Kennetpans, District of Alloa,

Parish and County of Clackmannan

having taken and subscribed the Oath required by the Act, and having sworn that

he himself is

sole Owner of the Ship or Vessel called The Isabella

of Kennetpans whereof William Primrose

is at present Master, and that the said Ship or Vessel was built at Kincardine

By John Marshall and launched in the month of November in the year

One Thousand seven hundred & Eighty six And Mr John Watson Landwaiter

having certified to Us, that the said Ship or Vessel is Br. Built has One Deck

and One Mast: that her Length, from the Fore-part of the Main Stem to the

After-part of the Stern Post aloft, is Forty six feet six Inches

Her Breadth at the broadest Part, whether above or below the Main Wales, Fifteen feet

Six Inches

her Depth of Hold Six feet six Inches

and measures Forty three & one half Tons; that she

is a Square Sterned Carval Sloop has No Gallery, and No

Head; and the said subscribing Owners having consented and agreed to the above

Description and Measurement, and having caused sufficient Security to be given, as

is required by the said Act, the said Sloop Isabella has been

duly registered at the Port of Alloa.

 

Given under Our Hands and Seals of Office, at the Custom-house in the said port

of Alloa this thirty first Day of January

in the Year One thousand seven hundred and eighty seven.
